Authorities seek source of counterfeit money
A few counterfeit $20 bills and five $100 bills were passed in the town, mostly to a “kind of random” http://www.cheapjerseys11.com/ selection of merchants, and some customers received the bills as change, only to realize later the money was fake.
Earlier this month, officers found a counterfeit $20 bill along with a printer and paper located in a suspicious vehicle at a grocery store parking lot.
He presumed the printing operation was small and low quality because the printer a basic Epson model and paper found in the vehicle are cheap and widely available.
The cash will be tested at a lab to confirm it is counterfeit. Baldwin said he expects to charge at least two people in connection with the seizure in the next cheap jerseys several weeks.
Sheriff’s Maj. Donald Simpson said deputies are looking for a man who used 35 fake $20 bills to purchase items at the Wal Mart in Appomattox on Sept. 15.
On Wednesday, deputies arrested an Appomattox woman in connection with an Aug. 29 incident, during which they said she knowingly used a counterfeit $20 bill at a convenience store.
Simpson said Laura Fay Dixon, 39, of Stevens Street, is charged with forging coin and bank notes, a Class 4 felony. Feb. 10.
Bedford Police Chief Todd Foreman and Amherst County Sheriff’s Capt. John Grieser said they each had at least one incident of counterfeit money being passed in their areas recently. They have not identified the source or filed any charges.
Baldwin said he is aware of similar instances in the South Boston and Halifax areas, though he noted there could be multiple sources of the fake bills.
“It could be more than one group that’s doing it,” he said.
Baldwin recommended business owners invest in pens that can detect counterfeit bills to prevent themselves from getting shortchanged by people who use them, knowingly or unknowingly.
