Autism advocates say Alabama is lagging behind in mandates for insurance coverage
Connor was formally diagnosed with Autism at four years old. His parents needed to get him started on early intervention therapies known as Applied Behavioral Analysis or ABA.
Katie Clary of the Riley Behavioral and Educational Center in cheap jerseys Huntsville says this therapy is critical for http://www.cheapjerseys11.com/ kids with Autism in order reach their full potential.
“The research shows that children at a young age that get 25 40 hours of intensive early intervention using ABA are going to make the best gains,” Clary said.
However, ABA treatment isn’t cheap and in Alabama insurance companies aren’t required to cover it.
“We just went with the insurance that we had through my husband’s work and it was limited. The services that we required were ABA therapy and speech and sensory integration therapy and unfortunately we were very limited to how many services we could receive,” Furbur said.
Clary wants Alabama to join the 43 other states that require ABA Autism treatment to be covered under insurance plans.
